Yesterday, during our in-school celebration, after the great cheer that followed my announcement of school closing on Wednesday (today) due to snow, we all "made silence." We often "make silence"in our Montessori school, it is a time when we all close our eyes and still our bodies and our minds. It is more than a time to be quiet, but a collective effort of will and trust.
Yesterday, I asked that the children listen to the sound of our silence in our Great Room. I suggested that sometime on the Snow Day, while playing outside, they make a snow angel and before getting up, take a minute and make silence.
Does that silence sound the same as our silence in the great room? What makes it the same? What makes it different? I am looking forward to hearing about their silence.
